According to the bulletin board in the Common Room, there's a Hogsmeade trip this weekend. Which is good, because I'd hoped to go before the snow melted, but I want to snow to melt soon, because outdoor classes are becoming rather miserable. And someone has knocked down all my snowmen, and I have no time to build more.

How many of you are going to Hogsmeade? If you don't already have plans, I'd love to go with a group, because as with most things Hogsmeade is more interesting when you've got friends with you. I expect the Marauders will be off at Zonko's (they usually are), or James will be tailing Lily, so that leaves Hugh and Chaeyz and Jenyae, I believe.

Should probably stop writing now, but History of Magic is awfully boring sometimes. And I don't think Binns has even noticed half the class is asleep, I'm typing, or that Olivia is decorating the ceiling. But since I don't really have anything else to talk about, I suppose I'll go find a slightly more interesting history of what Binns is talking about.

I could, if I finish my homework in time. In fact, I should. Samantha's birthday is coming up, and, being turning the wise old age of seven, she is scrupulously reminding everybody of this fact.

Thanks be to Merlin, I finally finished my report for History of Magic. I didn't realise that there was so much written about Uric the Oddball.

So I'll be going on the Hogsmeade trip! Hooray!

However...I got a good talking-to from our Astronomy teacher on Friday. I memorised the star charts, but unfortunately I memorised the wrong one, so I wrote up an astronomical charat for summer, not for winter. I was told that I would have to try harder and that this really was not the standard of work expected of Hogwarts students. I wish I could do better. I wish I could actually see the stars I'm supposed to be drawing.

::sigh::

Do you suppose Hogsmeade sells anything that would help?

And speaking of buying stuff, what do you want for your birthday?

It turned out we had a biography on him at home, which dad had packed into my trunk. Either he wanted me to read it just for kicks (the man did lead a very interesting life, and the book was well-written) or Binns really does never change his teaching schedules.

Oh, Hugh I'm sorry. Tell you what, I'll help you ask about Hogsmeade tomorrow if you want. There must be something.

Since it seems to have snuck up on me, I'm not quite sure what I want for my birthday. Books and candy are always the old standbys, but if you see something else while in Hogsmeade tell one of the others and they'll spirit me away so I don't know what it is.
